In 2022, Prince Edward Island, my beloved little island, was ravaged by Hurricane Fiona. The aftermath was devastating, with power outages lasting over 10 days in most areas. Trees were uprooted, power lines were downed, and countless homes were damaged. The landscape resembled a war zone, a sight unfamiliar to us in this northern region. The coastline was forever altered, and the protective sand dunes that shielded our communities were completely wiped away.
In May, I summoned the fortitude to visit our north shore tourist area and offer support to our local community by spending some time camping there. Amidst the widespread destruction, I discovered pockets of beauty that Hurricane Fiona had unexpectedly left behind. This particular place stands as a testament to the hurricane's paradoxical touch. The sea, once again, humbled me, reminding me of Mother Nature's dominion over us. Despite her wrath for our abuse of her planet she also reveals her pride by showing us these small havens of beauty she left behind.
